Do you need Cloud Computing?

What is Cloud Computing?

Cloud Computing allows you to keep your data and retrieve it when needed through the internet rather than off your computers hard drive. The cloud is pretty much another word for the internet. No hard drive is needed to store your data when using cloud computing as you are able to access your data online from anywhere you need, from any computer which has internet access.

When using cloud computing for business they tend to either go for ‘SaaS’ or ‘PaaS’. Software as a service (Saas) is when an organisation subscribes to an application which is accessed online which makes this based around cloud computing.. Platform as a service (PaaS) allows the business to create its own custom applications so it can best fit their needs to allow the company to run efficiently.

Common Cloud Examples:

Microsoft Office: Allows you to use applications online such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, OneNote, Excel. All these programmes can be accessed which all provide you with storage. You can access all of these apps from any device whether it be a laptop or smartphone.

Google Drive: This application allows you to have access to Google’s applications such as Google Docs, Google Sheets and Google Slides which all comes with storage. You can access all of these apps from any device whether it be a laptop or smartphone.

Apple’s Cloud Service: The cloud service is used for online usage such as storage, backup, main sync, contacts and calendars. All of this can also be accessed over the internet on any device.
